Classic Navy and Fun Fuschia

What a powerful combination of color! A classy and bright palette really elevated the “wow factor” for this wedding at the Peabody Essex Museum. The bride’s draped and shirred dress beautifully complemented the delicate ruffly peonies and bright blush garden roses in her bouquet. Some sweet peas and a little ‘something blue’ was tied with a handle of ivory lace to coordinate with her gown.

The photographer for this wedding, Channing Johnson, beautifully captured not only the wedding, but got some great detail shots of the beautiful flowers. We loved this shot of the groom’s boutonniere wrapped in black grosgrain ribbon–it perfectly sets off the white blossom against the lapel.

Willowdale in Summer

Jacqui and Josh were married this July at the Willowdale Estate. What is always surprising about the Willowdale, is their variety of spaces; no two weddings are alike. The lush gardens and beautiful flagstone pavilion lets the celebration take the stage and provides that beautiful, natural background we love. Soft and lush definitely describes the look and color palette of the bouquets and arrangements. Soft ivory, pale peach, and some lovely coral blooms with touches of fresh mint green give a balanced and romantic feeling to the bride’s bouquet.

The plump, velvety petals of white orchids, ivory garden roses, and even a cally lily or two definitely combine for a soft and beautiful bouquet.

The bridesmaids’ bouquets showed all the lovely peach, corals, and dusty rose that complemented the bride’s bouquet. We also added some scabiosa and poppy pods for a bit of sage coloring and some great texture.

Since details are our specialty, check out the treatment of the bride’s bouquet handle. We have a great collection of vintage lace and antique ribbons and pearl-head pins that adds to the uniqueness of the arrangements.

The color scheme carried into the reception arrangements, too, and we liked the pretty mint green runners. These colors just work! The low arrangements give the tables an intimate feeling.

Lush Habitat Wedding in Belmont

What an incredible affair–a small wedding at the Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary in Belmont, Massachusetts. The setting perfectly framed the garden-style feeling for the couple’s nuptials. From the handmade wreath of flowers on the iron gate to the aisle lined with wildflowers leading to a grapevine floral arched arbor (plus some tiny but lovely details) made for a lush, elegant, and natural wedding. The formal gardens, the mansion, and wild nature surrounding it all allowed the Petalena touch to thrive–and beautifully, it did.

Autumn is in the air…

We thought we’d take a look back to one of our October weddings from last year to keep our creativity going and to really enjoy the beauty of autumn. This wedding took place at the Commander’s Mansion in Watertown, Massachusetts. This historic home, built just after the Civil War, was the perfect setting for a lovely outdoor ceremony and reception. All photography by Aurora de Luca.

Lovely, deep maroon dahlias are the stars in the bridesmaids’ bouquets.

The bridesmaids bouquets incorporated deep shades of maroon, fresh greens, and pale fuschias. The bride held a bunch of elegant rust colored Calla lilies, the perfect complementary color.

On each table at the reception were bunches of dried wheat with lavender that the guests could take with them and enjoy long after the wedding. The pumpkins and autumn squashes continue the color palette of the season.

With the textural wheat centerpieces were these lovely little gems. These variegated dahlias in transparent bud vases give a nod to the historical feeling of the mansion with the fluted, delicate glass and keep the feeling of the reception romantic, but stunning.

We are feeling inspired already!

When it rains…

Bring the party indoors! Natalie and Andy didn’t let the weather rain on their ~~parade~~ wedding. After some unforeseen meteorological events, they kept their celebration going under a tent and thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

The bride’s bouquet was filled with dusty rose and peach tones mixed with some bright greens and delicate white peonies.

Her bridesmaids wore a lovely strawberry pink dresses that complemented the lovely pink peonies and warm yellow pops of color in their bouquets. This color scheme was carried through to their reception tables, where each arrangement incorporated slightly different flower varieties and colors. Some tables even had some small satellite arrangements. We love the chalkboard tags!

We also have to show the groom and his manly groomsmen some love with a closeup of the boutonnieres. The groom’s was wrapped with a rough twine, that gave the single, pristine rose of the lightest blush some masculinity. The groomsmen brought on the color!

From these photos, you can tell this couple know how to have fun. Their love of color just works–and we wish that same happy brightness to follow them into their future!

Petalena in Print

Petalena’s in print! We will soon be launching a new page on our site featuring Petalena editorials, interviews, and articles. Print media is slowly (sadly) disappearing, so we will digitize those glossies for posterity! Emily and Carson’s wedding is an editorial feature in the July/August 2012 issue of You & Your Wedding magazine, a UK-based publication. Petalena fit right in with this couple’s wedding, sweetly inspired by the animated film Up. For more, see our previous post, Blushing Blooms.

Now that it’s officially hot for summer, we thought we’d share one of our beach-related Petalena in Print items. We’ve been featured in WellWed Magazine–this is for all you Cape Codders, Nantucketers, and Vineyarders! Petalena loves nothing more than a warm, breezy day on the ocean (well, maybe except for a peony…or three!). Seeing this feature reminded us to relax and breathe just a bit during our busy time of year!

We’re item [6], center right. Mason jars and peonies are definitely a suited combo in our book.

We love traveling to the Cape and Islands when we get the chance. The sound of the waves, the smell of the sea, and the sway of the dune grasses inspire us to create pieces with natural beauty. A peek at the Fairmont Copley ballroom…

We had the great opportunity to design the florals for a lovely couple celebrating their nuptials at the Fairmont Copley ballroom. The beautiful details of the venue–intricate carved cornice ceiling, mirrored arched doorways, lush drapery from floor to ceiling–set off the equally lush florals and exquisite table settings.

The rich plum, magenta, and lilac colors created an elegant mood for the reception. To keep conversations going, the table arrangements were elevated in tall, vintage cut glass vases with silverplate details. They added just the right unique touch to this romantic reception. White and lavender tea roses and shades of hydrangea perfectly complimented the luxury of the venue and captured the vision of the bride and groom.

Boston Public Library: The Still Photos

Thanks to Corinna Raznikov, we have some beautiful still photography to share from Cathy and Ty’s BPL wedding. The bride’s bouquet combined soft whites with the beautiful fluttery texture of sweetpea and parrot tulips.

The bride and groom walked hand-in-hand to the library’s historic front entrance opposite Copley Square in the heart of Back Bay. We love the vintage look of the photo. She carried her bouquet with her everywhere!

The yet-to-be-married couple arrived at the library greeted by their families and friends, along with a very special young lady, the flower girl. Her bouquet was perfect for little hands and the pale pinks in her threaded orchid hair wreath accented her bouquet perfectly.
